High Dam at Aswan

Between 1960 and 1970, the Aswan high dam, which spans the Nile, was erected. It has had a huge impact on Egypt’s economy and culture.

The biggest obelisk from ancient times is the unfinished one. It was acquired by the Lateran Palace in Rome when Queen Hatshepsut (1508–1458 BC) commissioned it to accompany the Karnak Obelisk (which was originally at Karnak).

Isis, the goddess of love and beauty, is honored at the Philae Temple. As part of the UNESCO Nubia Campaign initiative, the temple complex was disassembled and moved to the adjacent island of Agilkia Island to safeguard it and other sites before the Aswan High Dam was finished in 1970.
